Jose Mourinho not in contract extension talks with Fenerbahce’s Atletico Madrid veteran

Atletico Madrid will consider several first-team signings this summer as Diego Simeone aims to overhaul his squad ahead of the 2024-25 season, which starts in August. In terms of defenders, Mario Hermoso and Stefan Savic will leave, and another person linked with a departure is Cesar Azpilicueta.

There are reports that Fenerbahce are interested in moving Azpilicueta. Fabrizio Romano reports that new manager Jose Mourinho has coached the Spanish veteran during his second spell at Chelsea, but there are no talks between the two sides at least for now.

Azpilicueta left Chelsea as a free agent last summer to join Atletico Madrid and appears to be one of the few defenders Simeone trusts, although given his age he could end up being considered for sale – assuming is to receive an acceptable offer. Currently, they hope to retain his services next season.
