Jordan Pickford confident of coaching England youngsters

Three Lions manager Gareth Southgate has selected Crystal Palace’s Mark Ghey to replace the injured Harry Maguire.

The 23-year-old doesn’t have as much experience as others and will need senior players to guide him if he is drafted into the team.

Pickford, who has been part of the England squad since 2017, believes he can help the talented young players in front of him by communicating with them, something he feels he is good at.

Asked about playing with young defenders, Pickford was quoted by the BBC as saying: “It’s easy. They’re there because of talent.

“When they have talent, I can help them and coach them because I can see the whole court and my communication will hopefully be the key to helping them.

“That’s what I think I’m good at.”

England kick off Euro 2024 on Sunday against Serbia in Germany.

The other two teams in Group C are Denmark and Slovenia.
