Everyone was surprised when the club announced it was parting ways with Mauricio Pochettino.

The Argentinian takes charge of the youngest team in the Premier League and has a long-term vision.

Despite a young squad and an injury-plagued season, he ended the season strongly, finishing sixth in the league and leading the club to the League Cup final and FA Cup semi-finals.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp even mocked his dismissal during his farewell interview at Marks & Spencer Arena.

Klopp said (quote via Metro ):

“We should be happy that we have them (Liverpool’s owners Fenway Sports Group) and not the people buying the London club.”

“If I had spent a year with them at Liverpool.

“In the end they (Chelsea) played football and everyone thought, ‘Oh, they might come back’ and then they sacked the manager.”

Chelsea announce appointment of Maresca

Chelsea have announced Enzo Maresca as their new head coach, marking another new beginning for the club.

Maresca, who previously coached Leicester City, led Leicester City back to the Premier League last season and won the title with an impressive 97 points in 46 games.

Chelsea joint sporting directors Lawrence Stewart and Paul Winstanley expressed their enthusiasm for Maresca’s arrival (quoted from Chelsea’s official website):

“We are delighted to welcome Enzo to Chelsea. He has proven himself to be an excellent coach, able to achieve impressive results with an exciting and clear style.

Enzo impressed us during our pre-appointment discussions. His ambitions and work ethic align with those of the club. We very much look forward to working with him.

Maresca himself described the opportunity to coach Chelsea as a dream come true:

“Joining Chelsea, one of the biggest clubs in the world, is any manager’s dream. That’s why I’m so excited about this opportunity. “I’m looking forward to working with a very talented group of players and staff to build a team that continues the club’s success. A team that has tradition and makes our fans proud. “
