Chelsea interested in signing Manchester City star

Chelsea recently took a major step forward by announcing Enzo Maresca as their new coach for the coming seasons. However, they are not done yet as the club are eyeing a summer move for Manchester City goalkeeper Stefan Ortega, according to GIVEMESPORT.

Stefan Ortega’s impressive performance this season

Stefan Ortega joined Manchester City on a free transfer in the summer of 2022 after a long spell with the German club. However, he has recently been thrust into the spotlight with his performances this season in Ederson’s absence.

Ortega showed great skills and temperament on the court under pressure. He has proven that he is capable of becoming the main defender at a top club. He featured in 20 games and kept eight clean sheets, conceding just 20 goals.

The German goalkeeper has insane reflexes and powerful hands to stop shots from both close and long range. He is also comfortable with the ball at his feet, which allows the team to build attacks from the back. No wonder so many clubs are interested in signing him.

Will Chelsea take formal action?

Last summer, Chelsea signed two goalkeepers, Roberto Sanchez and Djordje Petrovich, while loaning Kepa Arrizabalaga to Real Madrid. However, new boss Enzo Maresca seems unimpressed by any of them and wants to bring in a new name.

The Blues have been impressed with Stefan Ortega’s performances and are keen to make a move in the summer. From a player’s perspective, the 31-year-old has expressed his desire to become the first-choice goalkeeper. He even hinted at changes if needed.

Therefore, if Chelsea can negotiate with Manchester City, they have a good chance of getting his signature. The player has one year left on his contract, which could tempt the latter club to sell him to make some cash.
