The 13-cap Spain international enjoyed an outstanding season in La Liga which just concluded. He contributed 22 goals in all competitions for Ernesto Valverde’s side and was a key player in Bilbao’s Copa del Rey victory.

Arsenal are planning a move for the winger this month, with Mikel Arteta showing keen interest in the player, according to CaughtOffside. The report adds that Arsenal will “step up” their efforts to sign Williams in the coming days.

However, the Gunners reportedly face stiff competition as Williams is well-respected across Europe, with Manchester, Chelsea, Liverpool, Tottenham Hotspur and Barcelona all expressing interest in the player.

CaughtOffside also reports that Arsenal have shown the “strongest interest” in securing the Spaniard’s services as they look to strengthen their attacking ranks ahead of next season.

Williams is reportedly contracted at San Mamés until 2027, with a release clause of £42 million. The tricky winger could prove to be a shrewd signing for the Gunners, especially after such an impressive season with Bilbao and the Spanish national team.

Arsenal keen on Williams

Arsenal performed well last season but were unlucky to lose to Manchester City on the last day of the season.

They conceded the fewest goals and ranked second in the league in goals scored. They also have an excellent head-to-head record against the Premier League’s “big six”, remaining unbeaten in ten games against Liverpool, Chelsea, Tottenham Hotspur, Manchester City and Manchester United.

However, one of the things the Gunners need to do if they are to have any chance of stealing the Premier League title from Pep Guardiola’s side is adding depth to their squad.

The addition of Williams will strengthen Arsenal’s attack, as the youngster’s dribbling, goal-scoring ability and creativity make him the poster boy for Arteta’s side.

The north London giants already have Gabriel Martinelli, Bukayo Saka, Leandro Trossard and Reiss Nelson vying for wide spots, and the addition of Williams will provide the Gunners with Providing much needed depth and quality to go head-to-head with Manchester City.
